Anna Marie Sasso
Councilwoman at Large
Anna Marie Sasso is a lifelong resident of Hawthorne and a local businesswoman, being the owner and broker of record for the RE/MAX Executive Group on Lafayette Avenue. As she frequently tells clients who ask why she's so passionate about Hawthorne, her entire family – everyone she loves and cares about – lives in Hawthorne. That gives her more than a vested interest in this community, which she frequently put to good use in her first term as a councilwoman.
Being the proud mother of two sons, Giancarlo and Domenic, who grew up playing baseball and basketball in Hawthorne’s youth athletic programs, motivated her to step up and become more actively involved in those activities. She has been the generous sponsor of a youth baseball team since 2004 and is a consistent sponsor of the Hawthorne Baseball Softball Association, as well as anything else she is asked to do for Hawthorne’s children.
Ms. Sasso’s passion for supporting the youth of our community resulted in her creating the Mark A. Sasso Foundation in memory of her late husband, specifically to build a playground for children at St. Anthony’s School on Diamond Bridge Avenue. To accomplish that goal, she organized and runs an annual charity softball game at the Wagaraw Field sports complex involving popular ESPN TV personalities. That event, which has been taking place for 16 years now, not only built the playground but also funds scholarships for Hawthorne students going on to college. To date, over $40,000 + has been raised and distributed.
Speaking of the Wagaraw Field sports complex, Ms. Sasso was the first person to donate money for scoreboards when they were needed there. She has been a proud sponsor of Hawthorne High School’s Project Graduation since 2004. Also, she sponsors free hot chocolate for residents who attend the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at Borough Hall, something she initiated back in 2004.
Ms. Sasso is an active member of Hawthorne Rotary; Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce; and Vice President of the Hawthorne Regular Republican Organization (HRRO). She has served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment since 2015. As a councilwoman, she currently serves on the Ordinance Committee, the Library Board of Trustees, and is liaison to the Board of Education and Hawthorne Ambulance Corp. As a member of the Beautification Committee, chaired by Councilman Mele, she is excited to share that they are working on multiple projects, including revitalizing the municipal pool area.
Ms. Sasso proudly spearheaded the Borough’s new website, along with our Borough Clerk, and she regularly shares her expertise and knowledge of local real estate matters, values, and regulations with members of the governing body. She would like our residents to know that the position of councilwoman is one of great honor, and she’s just getting started for you! She thanks you for your vote of confidence in the past and asks for your continued support in the future.
